Also be sure to keep the jewelry you leave behind safe.  It’s best to store your jewelry in a safety deposit box.  If you don’t have one at home, you can rent one, or at least put your fine jewelry in an inconspicuous place.

Take Notes and Pictures of the Jewelry You are Taking with You

These notes should include details about the piece, including the size, weight, appraisal value and purchase date. This information will help you keep track of your pieces and will also be invaluable in the case that something unfortunate happens to any of your jewelry. 

Keep Appraisals Up to Date
